Jen and Hari met while Jen was interning in Chennai at a creative consulting company. After falling in love and dating long-distance for two years (not easy to begin with, but with the time difference, even crazier) before Hari moved to the US. Because Jen loves books and works in publishing, Hari set up a proposal in the quiet calm of the New York Public Library. Of course, moving to a new country is difficult, even when you’re with the person you want to spend your life with. They wanted to celebrate their marriage with Hari’s friends and family back home as well, so they started planning their destination wedding in Bangalore, India, from the US. The vibrant, colorful city is one of their favorites, so it seemed like a natural choice. They decided to have their wedding ceremony and reception at Templetree Leisure, and the Mehendi event the day before at the largest microbrewery in India, Byg Brewski.
When they reached out about engagement photos and I offered to shoot their wedding too, I had no idea that they were planning to have their wedding in India. After a quick email back from Jen (we’re having our wedding in India… would you shoot there??) a not-so-quick flight to Bangalore (16 hours total with a 4 hour layover in Mumbai) and all the planning and packing in between, I met up with Jen and Hari the day after Christmas for two days of colorful celebration. It was amazing to see so many of Jen and Hari’s friends and family from all over the world come to be with them, and it was surreal to be a part of it.
This is day one of two, so stay tuned for the exciting sequel (marriage)!
