We went back and forth a little bit deciding on where to do Jordan and Julianne’s engagement session, but they finally decided on New York, specifically the Upper West Side. It’s an important place to them, and it meant we could visit special little places like The Muffins Shop Cafe (shoutout to them for letting us take photos in there). I always plan a bit before every shoot, but when shooting in New York I try to stay open because there’s no way to plan for everything that pops up.
All throughout sessions I talk to my couples about “finding the light.” I love sharing a little bit of the process with people when they’re in front of the camera. So when Julianne froze in the middle of the sidewalk and said: “I think I found the light!” I actually kind of felt like a proud parent (and I love how that photo turned out!).
We started out near Central Park, but Julianne and Jordan knew they wanted more of an urban feel, so we spent a few minutes near some tulips for good measure, and then headed out onto the street. We got some muffins at one of their favorite spots, Jordan “got a shoe shine” (sort of) and I unknowingly took a photo of his old apartment building. We ended up at Lincoln Center because there are just so many cool spots around that area.
