From the first phone call I had with Christine, I could tell that she and Josh were awesome people. She told me that they were planning a camping wedding, because they thought camping was the best way for people to really get to know each other (Josh had also proposed on a camping trip). They didn’t want any fluff, just their favorite people, their pets, and the outdoors.
I’d been watching the forecast in the weeks leading up to their wedding day, hoping the weather would be clear for them. The morning of their wedding, it was pouring. As I drove into the Catskills with barely any signal on my phone, I got a text from Christine saying that their campsite had completely flooded and they were moving their wedding to a barn down the road. A super generous family nearby heard about the wedding and had offered the space to them.
All of their family and friends cleaned out and decorated the barn that morning to get it ready. They lugged out heaps of stuff, and by the time I arrived, it looked awesome. I couldn’t really understand how they had done it actually. They’d picked wildflowers for the tables, and even built their own log benches for seating. I couldn’t believe how they pulled it off so quickly and made everything look so beautiful. It was what a wedding should really be about. The people around you on your wedding day are the most important thing. And your dogs.
