I knew I loved Vicky and Anjuli from the moment they first emailed me about shooting their wedding. “If our relationship had a theme, it would be “high-low”. We both love good bourbon, good food and trashy TV.” Not everyone is so honest about themselves, and their candidness about who they are and what they wanted for their wedding stayed the same from the time we talked until their wedding day. What they cared most about was having a good time with their friends and family. The toasts that are given at a wedding tell a lot about a couple, and there was no end to the good things people had to say about them and their relationship with each other. If you happen to look at the list of people who worked to make this wedding happen (at the bottom of this post), you’ll see a lot of names without websites. That’s because so many of them are friends and family.
They decided to have their ceremony and reception at Huckleberry Restaurant in New Paltz New York, which is not only the cutest and coziest venue, but also has an amazing staff and incredible food. Vicky works in the food industry, so it was important to them that the food be awesome. I also loved how they merged their cultures and included Hindu traditions in their ceremony.
The weather was a little crazy–it held out for their ceremony and most of their portraits, but little sprinkles started falling on us as we shot the last few and headed back to the venue. It was storming and pouring pretty soon after, and everyone ducked into the restaurant for drinks and games. When the rain cleared a little we all headed outside to sit near the fire, eat snacks, and smoke cigars (well personally I didn’t, but it was fun to shoot).
I just have to say a little thank-you to the staff at Huckleberry for working so hard to make sure everyone had an amazing time, despite the rain. The atmosphere was really special and they were a big part of that!
