You may remember these two from such hits as Sam + Allison’s engagement session in New Haven (you can also read their proposal story on How They Asked.) I went to high school with Sam, and there are dorky theater photos to prove it. We may or may not have been in a Christmas show for kids, with elf costumes. Anyway, I was obviously excited when Sam reached out to have me shoot their engagement session and wedding. They chose to have a Lighthouse Point Park wedding, which was perfect for them. It also happens to be in New Haven, so everything kind of came full circle.
They wanted their wedding to have a “tropical beach picnic by the carousel” feel, and I think they definitely achieved that. I loved the clambake by Clambakes of CT (these people are amazing… they cracked a lobster for me so I wouldn’t have to have messy hands while working), the gingham napkins, and all the mismatched vases with all types of flowers in them, including poppies, which were my favorite. Obviously a carousel is an amazing thing to have access to, not just for photos but for riding.
The whole night was just dancing, riding the carousel, and sneaking out for some photos on the beach at sunset. I really had so much fun shooting this wedding, not just because Lighthouse Point is one of my favorite venues, but because Sam and Allison are just awesome.

[…] So “does it matter if our wedding photographer hasn’t shot at our venue?” If it’s important to you, you should find someone who has. I just always encourage couples to make sure it’s not the only deciding factor, because it’s so much more important that you hire someone whose work and personality you connect with.Just for fun: Two of the galleries below are from venues I’d shot at before, and one was new for me.
