Allie and Ciaran met while working in a restaurant in Sydney, and got to know each other by bonding over their mutual love of beer, food and travel. It was obvious to me while getting to know them that they had the team mindset needed to handle it. Their friends and family flew in from all over for their wedding. Because I’m a Connecticut documentary wedding photographer, I’ve photographed a lot of backyard weddings. Documentary wedding photography goes well with the laid-back feel of backyard weddings.
Backyard weddings are my favorite, because they have that feeling of just being a really special family gathering. We spent some time at the beach for photos, headed to the church for their ceremony, then to Allie’s parent’s house for the reception–which of course had lots of good beer, and best of all, fish and chips (to go with the beer, obviously). For their honeymoon they took a road trip to visit breweries across the country, which really is like one huge pub crawl, which I think it an awesome idea for a honeymoon. I also loved all the little details and gnomes scattered around the reception. It was just fun and colorful!
